This article reviews the gut microbiota and how it might impact health and disease conditions. Dysbiosis occurs in gut-associated diseases and other non-digestive conditions. Many studies in animals show a causative role for gut microbiota in disease and health. The role of gut microbiota in brain health is highlighted.
