This article reviews the canine nutritional adaptations evolved from their wolf ancestors using genome comparisons that allowed the identification of 3 genes involved in the digestion of starch. The adaptation from a predominantly carnivorous diet to a fairly starch-rich diet accompanied the process of domestication.
