This article reviews the interactions between diet, gut microbiota and human health (paediatric and adult health) under systems biology approach, examining how dietary macro- and micronutrients such as short-chain fatty acids, bile acids, and amine and aromatic compounds are co-metabolized by humans and their microbial symbiotic microbiota.
