This article reviews a subgroup of obese people (approx 25%) who do not suffer from the usual pathologies associated with obesity, such metabolic dysfunctions and inflammation, and have apparent preserved insulin sensitivity. Such a characterization of obese dogs and cats could reveal the existence of a healthy obese phenotype, allowing a better selection of patients that would benefit from weight losing programs.
