Loss of muscle mass and function is inherent to aging. Severe muscle loss is termed “sarcopenia.” Loss of muscle strength and function not only decreases mobility and quality of life, but also is related to numerous unfavorable health outcomes. Hormonal, exercise and nutritional therapy can all play a role in lessening the rate of muscle loss with aging.
