Effects of dietary fiber content on Satiety in dogs.

This study was designed to evaluate the impact on satiety of dietary fibre in dogs. 30 dogs were split into 2 groups. In the morning one group was fed a low fibre diet and the other a high fibre diet. In the afternoon, dogs were offered an unrestricted quantity of the same commercial dog food. Total food intake per feeding was recorded daily. Results showed that dogs fed the high fibre diet consumed fewer total calories throughout the day than those dogs fed the low fibre diet (65.3 vs. 79.4 Kcal/kg body 3 weight/day, respectively; p < 0.001) which indicates that high fibre diets may provide a satiety effect when fed to dogs and can help reduce caloric intake.
