Effects of feeding a high omega-3 fatty acids diet in dogs with naturally occurring osteoarthritis.

This study compared a clinical diet rich in fish-derived omega-3 fatty acids to a regular diet in 30 privately owned dogs with stifle or hip osteoarthritis and lameness. Severity of the lameness during daily activities and ground reaction forces were evaluated at the beginning of the study and periodically after separating the dogs in two groups with each of the diets. After 13 weeks, only the dogs in the test diet showed a significant decrease of lameness indicators.
